A Good PLAN?

Have you ever thought you had a good plan and then catastrophe happens when you try to put your plan into action? That happens almost every Sunday for me, while I’m teaching my Sunday School Class at church. You see I teach 3-6-year-olds, and some days it’s like herding cats in there.  I don’t care how hard I work at a lesson, some days I just can’t get them to be still enough to listen to it!  Do you ever think that is maybe a little bit of how God feels about us?  God has this beautiful plan for us, but we won’t be still enough to listen.  Sometimes, all we have to do is be still and KNOW that HE is God, but we run around in a panic trying to find the solution to the problem ourselves.  SMH! (Shaking My Head, just in case I have some readers who don’t know what SMH stands for).

I did teach a Sunday School Lesson a few weeks ago, on how Jesus calmed the storm.  Matthew 8: 23-27

“23 Then he got into the boat, and his disciples followed him.24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

I’m sure the disciples thought that they were going to get on a boat for a while and rest, but that storm got ugly.  They forgot who was with them, JESUS.  He apparently wasn’t worried, He was sleeping.  This is such an example of how we should face the storms in our life or the catastrophes that come our way.  This also brings to my mind of how I tried to teach my girls when they were younger, to not panic when they go hurt, or if something upset them, I taught them to practice the “3 C’s” Stay Calm, Cool, and Collected. It took with Dani, but not with Jana, but that’s a whole other story.

Let’s break that down further.  Stay calm.  I want to think of this as an action word.  Calm, make tranquil and quiet; soothe. RELAX!!  Life is going to throw catastrophes at you, don’t panic in these moments.  That’s what the devil would like you to do.  He wants you to forget you have the Almighty One on your side.  When we have a calm mind, we can think clearly and process the situation.  Don’t panic like a herd of cats!

Stay Cool. Stay composed. Keep it together!  If we lose our ability to process the situation, we lose focus on the outcome. Proverbs 29: 18 reads, “Where there is no vision, the people perish; but happy is he who keeps to the teaching.” In every situation, great or small, remember to stay focused on “in the end, this will work out for good”. Someone else is always watching you as well, in this moment of “Coolness” we are setting an example to others on how to walk with Christ even in our catastrophic moments.

Stay Collected. Don’t be distracted.  In this catastrophic moment, we can become distracted by what is going on around us, and forget that we are children of the King!  We also forget our mission, you remember to draw others to Christ.  How can we attract others to Christ, if we are not showing the world that we have something different?  After all, we win in the end.  All things, bad or good, work together for good to them that love the Lord.  Praise God even in your darkest moments; it’s in those moments that we show others that we have something different.

I hope that I’ve said something this morning that will be a blessing to you.  My mind seems to ramble these days.  Squirrel…  LOL!

Have a Blessed Day!

The Road to Destruction

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end, it leads to death.” Proverbs 16:25.

What seems right and what is right are often two totally different things.  I find it so hard to determine which path I should take.  I want so much to do what is right.  I too often rely on my judgment to determine which path to take, but I should call on God to help me navigate the path I should take.  The kids used to wear F. R. O. G. bracelets they got from the Christian bookstore.  (In case you can’t remember F. R. O. G. reminds us to Fully Rely On God.)  We should fully rely on God for everything.  He owns the cattle on a thousand hills, after all.  He is the author and creator of everything.  Why wouldn’t we fully rely on Him?  Is it because we think we KNOW better than Him?

Be a  F. R. O. G. today. Walk the path laid before you and fully rely on Him.  Proverbs 3: 5 & 6 says that we should “Trust in the Lord with all our hearts, and lean not on our own understanding, in all our ways we should acknowledge him, and He shall direct our paths.”   Which path will you take today?

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.[1]

What Amuses Me?

Well that’s the question of the day, isn’t it? Today, it’s this picture.

Mainly, because that’s how I feel most days. I never feel like I put my best foot forward. I feel like most days, I’m seriously doing my best to put my clothes on and head out the door. My mascara is most likely running down my face and I may have lipstick on my teeth or worse on top of my lips because I’ve been drinking my morning coffee.

Let’s be real for a minute, mornings are tough! I thank the Lord above because He promises to give strength to the weary. Isaiah 40:29-31 “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Hello, this says even the young grow tired and weary! I am far from young; no wonder I’m tired! Today, I will find my strength in the Lord. Today very well be the day I rise up on wings like eagles! I’m ready Lord, raise me up!

Have a blessed day!

Velvetizer, What’s That?

I feel very overwhelmed with all the new products that are available now. Back when I first started wearing makeup, in the dinosaur days, it was simple, foundation, blush, powder, eyeshadow, mascara, and I applied it in that order. Today, you must cleanse, tone, serum, moisturize, prime, foundation, under eye concealer, set the under-eye concealer, bake, contour, blush, prime the eyes, eyeshadow, set the face, powder the face, highlight, mascara, and apply setting spray. I don’t even know if I typed them in the correct order much less apply them in the correct order. There’s just so much to remember today!

So, last week, I talked about my search for the right foundation. I have continued to play around with the Bye-Bye Foundation from It Cosmetics, but I find that I like to mix it with their CC+ Cream, both are in the shade light. I find that this combination is lovely, not too thick, and not too cakey, but… dun dun dun, there is always a but, am I right? I have been using the Urban Decay Velvetizer Translucent Mix-in Medium to set the foundation, and this stuff has changed the game of long wear foundation for me! I guess I’ve been living under a rock because I’ve never used a setting powder so finely milled to set my foundation before. HELLO! This stuff is amazing!

Now, let me back up here a bit, this product is marketed for mixing it in with your foundation, but the packaging says it can be used as a setting powder. I did try mixing it in, and it did do a beautiful job making my foundation look like velvet! It really does provide a gorgeous finish to all the foundations I’ve used it with and seemed to boost the coverage that the foundation offered. But… let’s be real I don’t have time to mix it in my foundation every morning! I usually wake up at the very last minute and rush to get out the door. Plus, it’s a little messy. I felt like there was wasted product everywhere, and at $34.00, I don’t want to waste any product! I want to use every bit of it. Once, I started using it as a setting powder; I LOVE it! My foundation seems to hold up better throughout the day, and not break down. It seems to bind the product together and make it stick to my face!
I’m not a professional makeup artist, I just know what works for me, and this stuff does! If you’ve not tried it, you should run out and buy it! My Ulta did not carry it, so I had to order it online, but it came in quick. If you order it from www.urbandecay.com, you can use the Shoprunner Free 2-day shipping & free returns.

Thank you, Urban Decay Cosmetics, for creating such a game-changing product! Uban Decay’s Velvetizer is a Holy Grail product for me from now on!

Thoughts for Today!

Listen and silent are spelled with the same letters. Think about it…

Tuesdays Need Foundation!

Well I’ve already told you that Monday’s need Mascara. Today, I’m going to tell you that Tuesday’s need a LOT of foundation!  I must admit that as a younger woman, I didn’t take care of my skin like I should have.  I was an avid sun worshiper, using iodine and baby oil heaven forbid we do anything to prevent that dark tan!  I have several sun spots all over my body to show it, too, and that includes my face!  Young ladies, please wear sun screen!! You won’t regret it in your old age.

I haven’t been pleased with very many of my choices in foundation lately.  They all seem to break apart by the end of the day.  I don’t know if that is because on my personal summers (hot flashes) or because I tend to touch my face through out the day.  Either way, I can see through my foundation by the end of the day.  My texture, pores, wrinkles, sun spots, and texture bother me.  I wear foundation to cover that stuff up, not let it shine for all the world to see. I’m on the hunt for a foundation that has staying power.

Image used from Tarte Cosmetics
Tarte Shape Tape Foundation

This week I’ve tried the new Shape Tape Foundation by Tarte Cosmetics.  I purchased the color Light Sand. The color matched my complexion pretty well, in case you didn’t know Tarte failed to create a wide variety of colors for this much anticipated foundation, which caused quite a stir in the beauty community.  That being said they have made an apology and plan to release more colors as soon as they can. I chose the matte foundation, because at my age, I want to cover my imperfections.  Tarte’s website says that this foundation “smooths over pores & imperfections with rich, airbrushed full coverage that dries to a flawless matte finish using a unique, concealer-inspired wand. The formula absorbs oil & shine while leaving skin creaseless, hydrated, free of flakiness or cakiness & helping to improve skin health with every application.”

I found it to be too thick, too full coverage, if that is such a thing, and I felt that my imperfections were noticeable with it’s coverage.  I didn’t like it at all.  Now, maybe I should have chosen the Hydrating sister foundation, and I may just order that one next. If you’re looking for a FULL Coverage foundation, then this one may be just the one for you.

Tarte Cosmetics
Tarte Clay Stick Foundation

I have used Tarte Clay Stick Foundation and enjoyed it very much.  I like that it’s a stick and I can apply it directly to my face.  It blends easily, and the coverage is nice.  The color seemed to match my skin tone very nice, and it was comfortable through out the day.   I would buy this foundation again, and I would recommend it whole-heartedly.

I have also worn their Amazonian Clay 12 hour Foundation . I also enjoyed this foundation, however it did not have the long wear that I was looking for.  It was comfortable on the skin as well, and it didn’t irritate my sensitive skin.  I would purchase this foundation again as well.

Alas, my search for the perfect foundation continues.  I will find it one day, until then the search continues.

I’m just curious, what foundation do you like, and why?  Please leave a comment, I would love to hear your experiences with make up and what products I should try next.

Until Next Time!

Las Vegas Anyone?

vegas tripI have had this trip in mind for a long time, but have never had the opportunity to actually go. I’m very excited to get to spend some quality time with my friends, and to experience the sights and sounds of Vegas.

Since I’ve never been here before, I did a little research on things to do, places to stay, and etc… but once you arrive, it becomes a little overwhelming, especially for a small town girl like me. So, for you first timers out there I’m going to make some suggestions in this blog that may help with travel to and from Vegas.

Location, Location, Location

I cannot stress enough, you must select a hotel by the location.  Now, we didn’t rent a car of our own, so we relied on Uber and walking, so this was a big deal for us.  We stayed at the MGM Grand and it was great! However, it’s location on the strip was far away from the center of the strip.  It is located very close to the airport, which was a plus.

Attractions, Attractions, Attractions

Gosh there is just so much to see in Vegas.  I will tell you there is no way to see everything in one trip.  My advice would be to pick the top 5 attractions that you really want to do, and focus on those.  You really need to research these, because this trip would be personalized for your group.  We chose to take an excursion to the Hoover Dam.  It was awesome!  So much history!

Hoover Dam 2018

Budget, Budget, Budget

Now this is one that no one wants to take about. But I have to be real with you, Vegas is expensive! Bottled water in our hotel was over 6.00 a bottle.  Come on…that’s more expensive than Disney World!  Most everything we looked at cost more in Vegas, so be sure to calculate that into your trip planning.

All in all it was a great trip, we had the best time!  Here’s some more of our pictures:

Cleaning Tips and Tricks

It’s Easier to Keep a Clean House Clean, Than It Is to Clean a Dirty House!

This is my personal motto for cleaning house, and I must be honest and tell you that my house is very much lived in.  If you show up at my house, I can promise you there is always something out of place. My Mom always kept everything clean, I have failed many times over the years, but before I got married, she led by example.  She had her list of chores and she did them daily.  She cleaned every bathroom top to bottom, the floors, she dusted daily, and always cleaned the kitchen after she used anything.  When I tell you, there was never a speck of dust in her house I mean it!  My Grandmother is the same way.  She cleans daily.  I didn’t realize until lately how OCD she is about a dirty house.  LOL! These women are shining examples of the perfect housewife.  They love what they do!  I however, do not love cleaning the house, EVER!  I have in the past, let my house go, when my children were younger and we had school activities going on every night, and I worked every day, so there was no time to deep clean my house every day.  At the time, I was doing good to wash the towels and keep them fed.

Today, however, it’s just me and my husband, and our animals, so my load of housework is a little different, but I want to give you women with young children some tips and tricks that I have learned over the years.

Keep your cleaning supplies close to what you use them, bathroom cleaning supplies in the bathroom, kitchen supplies in the kitchen. That way if you see something that needs to be cleaned, you can grab the cleaner and get it done, before you walk to another end of the house and get distracted by something or someone else.

In my house taking out the trash seems to be the chore that no one wants to do, and if it does get taken out, then a new trash bag never gets put back in the can. So, I recommend keeping a few extra bags folded up in the bottom of the trash can.  That way you can replace the bag as soon as you remove the full bag. (or the next person can’t use the excuse that they couldn’t find the trash bags. Ha!)

My mother-in-law comes to mind on this tip. Instead of sweeping the whole floor when something spilled off the kitchen counter, she keeps a small hand-held brush and [amazon_textlink asin=’B00DHHLAFC’ text=’dust pan’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’whatamusesde-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’a918db16-0bb3-11e8-a63b-ddfcfc66318e’] in the kitchen and sweeps only the mess that she made, also if a liquid item is spilled, she will clean it up immediately with a wash cloth and her usual floor cleaner. Clean the small messes immediately so they are not tracked all over the house.

cleaning-washing-cleanup-the-ilo-48889Keep a [amazon_textlink asin=’B000QR931O’ text=’Swiffer duster’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’whatamusesde-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’65b06340-0bb3-11e8-bebe-d36016363b20′] in the car. Ok, how many times have you gotten in the car and noticed that your dash is filthy?  I started using a Swiffer duster in the car a few years ago, now I just leave one in the car.  It is great for dusting the dashboard, and if it’s already in the car, you can dust while you in line to pick up the kiddos after school!

My last tip is for those big garden tubs that are murder to clean. I keep a [amazon_textlink asin=’B016YWN5TU’ text=’magic erase’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’whatamusesde-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’7c88ed10-0bb3-11e8-9feb-3589d881c377′]r with my soaps and razors, so that I can wipe the tub down, before I get out.  Now, I will deep clean the tub with Lysol or bleach once a month, but the magic eraser keeps the soap scum from building up in a ring around the top of the tub, and also, I can go around the edges and wipe them down as well before I get out. I also keep one near the bathroom sink, and as I’m bushing my teeth, I will wipe the sink down, killing two birds with one stone!

I hope you find these tips will help you in your daily lives.  Please comment back your house cleaning tips and tricks.  I’m working on a tips and tricks list for laundry next, so if you have any laundry tricks, I would love to share them.

Hair Loss

I did a lot of research before deciding to go through weight loss surgery.  I wanted to know everything; the good, the bad and the ugly.  After watching videos on YouTube, reading blogs, and joining every FaceBook group I could find.  I decided that I wanted to go for it.  I needed to take my health back.  You see, I was an insulin pump wearing diabetic with high blood pressure, thyroid issues, and sleep apnea.  No matter what diet I did, I just couldn’t get the weight to come off.  So I decided to go for Gastric Sleeve surgery.  I worked very had to get my insurance to pay for the surgery.  It took 6 months of monthly doctor’s appointments, a psychiatric visit, a visit with a nutritionist, and letters from all the doctors that I see for my asthma, sleep apnea, endocrine issues.

During this time, every video, Facebook group, and YouTube channel I visited kept talking about hair loss.  I knew going into this that my hair wasn’t thick.  I kept looking for things that I could do to prevent the hair loss, but to no avail.  Exactly 4 months after my surgery, it started.  I had toyed with the idea of just cutting my long hair off into a pixie cut and bleaching it to the whitest blonde I possibly could.  When the time came, I was ready or so I thought.  I chickened out the first hair appointment I had, and just took some length off.

Needless to say, I was disappointed in myself for not just going for it.  I realized that my hair was a “security blanket” so to speak.  I used to think it distracted from my triple chins.  LOL!  I no longer had a triple chin, just a double at this time, but I needed to shed the old me, I needed to embrace the new me.  So I took the plunge and cut it off!  YIKES!  It was very liberating!  I was turning into a new person, one who didn’t let fear hold me back. Well, at least fear of cutting my hair, we’ll talk about fear of heights and roller coasters later.  I was still very worried about loosing more hair, so I began to talk with my hairdresser, and she recommended Sugarbearhair Vitamins.

I have to tell you, I was very worried about ordering these to begin with.  I have an aversion to vitamins, the smell, the taste, and the texture.  But I wanted my hair to grow back.  Now, let me tell you it didn’t grow back immediately. I went for two months and didn’t see any new growth in my color, ladies you know what I’m talking about.  I was very worried that my hair would be forever changed.  But to my surprise… I started seeing new growth, and having little “alfalfa” sprouts sticking straight up!  So, I’m really glad I cut my hair, because those little spikes just blended in with my cut.

5 months later, and I’m still taking the vitamins.  I love them, and look forward to my sweet treat before bed.  If you’ve ever wondered what product to take to encourage your hair to grow, I fully recommend Sugarbearhair.  I purchased mine from Amazon.

Thanks for stopping by my Blog today.  It really means the world to me!

Top 5 Beauty Products I Can’t Live Without

Along time ago, I heard someone say that if the barn needs painting then paint it.  That has been my Moto ever since.  My barn needs painting, the barn I call my face.  It is very rare that I leave the house without makeup.  Maybe if I’m going swimming, I will, but I must have mascara! LOL! Although, I don’t like a face full of heavy makeup, I do prefer that the spots on my face are covered.  You see, I was a child of the 80’s, baby oil and iodine were mixed was my favorite suntan oil.  Sunscreen was a terrible thing; the darker the tan the better!  I’m paying for that now; oh boy, am I ever paying for that! Today, I have brown spots and broken capillaries on my cheeks and my nose.  I prefer those are covered, and I also am seeing my pores more than ever.  I struggle every day with keeping them cleaned out.  I never really had acne as a teenager, I had it bad during my pregnancies, and on into my 30’s.  Even today, I will have the occasional pimple.  So, great makeup begins with great skin care, which is another blog all together.

As I said earlier, I prefer that all my sun spots are covered, but I don’t want my face to feel like I have make up on.  (I know, I’m weird) Recently, I’ve been using It Cosmetics, CC Cream in Light.  I really like this,  it does a great job at covering my redness and doesn’t make my face feel too cakey. (made up word, I know LOL!)

Right now, I’m really enjoying the blush palette that Anastasia of Beverly Hills pexels-photo-354962.jpegreleased this past Christmas.  It has four colors in it, a warm pink, a bubble gum pink, a coral pink, and a terra-cotta color.  I sometimes swirl my brush through all of the colors and lightly apply the color to the apple’s of my cheeks.

Now, I have to admit that I really love eyeshadow.  I own a LOT of eyeshadow.  I have several palettes from Urban Decay, but right now I am LIVING for Morphe eyeshadow.  I am in love with the last three palettes they released.  First, the Jaclyn Hill palette is to DIE for.  It has everything that you could ever possibly need.  I must say she did a great job of choosing the colors and the consistency is perfect.  All of the colors I have used have blended like a dream.  Second, have the 39A  Dare to Create palette, and it is just gorgeous!  The third one I have is the 24G, Grand Slam palette.  It is equally as beautiful!  There are some mattes and shimmers in these and they blend like a dream as well.  I must say they have really stepped up their game with the release of these last three palettes.  I’m very impressed and want to point out that they are also a great value.  I have paid $55.00 for my Urban Decay palettes, and these run between $23 and $38 dollars.

I own more lipstick than I want to admit.  I have a real problem when it comes to lipstick-lips-mirror-girl.jpglipstick.  I keep looking for the perfect shade of pinky-brown.  I haven’t found it yet.  Sigh… I will just have to keep looking.  I am the girl who likes to put my lipstick on and not touch it up every 5 minutes, or worry that it’s all over my teeth and face.  So I stir clear of items like that.  When I ordered the 24G palette from Morphe, I also ordered a matte liquid lipstick.  It’s called Vanity.  Now, when you first apply it, it is a little light, but once it dries down, it’s very nice.  Still not my perfect shade, but I have reached for it a good bit in the last few weeks.  It seems to stay in place, and not feel too dry like most liquid lipsticks.  I’m impressed to say the least with Morphe!

Ok, I guess I should have put mascara at the top of the list since I won’t leave the house without it.  LOL! Too late now!  I love Too Faced, Better Than Sex, waterproof mascara.  I have tried to wear many others, but they always seem to slide off my eyelashes.  Working on a computer, I look down most of the time, this mascara does a great job staying in place, and it applies really nice.  I don’t have to work so hard to build up my lashes.  I would say maybe two coats is all it takes to make my lashes look full and long.

Thanks for stopping by today, and taking the time to read my blog.  Your support is very important to me.  If there is any subject you would like to know more about, please let me know.  I’d be happy to elaborate on whatever!

Be Blessed Today,

IMG_0409Oh this is really scary! I’m stepping out on a huge limb and starting my blog. I’ve prayed about this and now I’m stepping through the door that I believe God wants for me.  I have to admit that I’m very nervous.  I’m not a huge talker or writer for that matter, and I usually sit quiet in the background and let my husband do all the talking.  If you know him you’ll know that he likes being front of people. If you don’t, he’s a pastor/music minister, so speaking in public is his thing, and not mine, but here I am nonetheless.

Let me take a minute and introduce myself.  My name, of course, is Deanna.  I’m 48 and I am the proud wife of Monty Bounds, pastor and worship leader of 19th Avenue Baptist Church.  We have been married for 30 years, and we have two beautiful daughters who have grown into wonderful young women, and two bonus daughters, who are their best friends, but I claim them as mine, and let me tell you, I’m equally as proud of them! Last but not least, I have a bonus Granddaughter, and she is the BEST THING EVER! My husband and I live in Hattiesburg, MS, but we’ve lived in Columbus, MS, Albertville, AL, Van Buren, AR, and Denham Springs, LA.

I work full time in banking as a loan processor and now a blogger. YIKES! I am a self-professed gadget girl.  I love trying new techie things, so part of this blog will talk about the new items I am trying or have discovered.  I also LOVE make up and all things beauty related, so I will be reviewing new make up and skincare that I have found, and I want to discuss with you what God is doing in my life.  To be honest with you, I’m guilty of letting life get in the way, and sometimes I forget that my God owns the cattle on a thousand hills.  I like to try and fix things.  What can I say about that, except that I think it’s a mom thing.  We want our nest to be in a neat order, and all our chicks to be in a row.  If things get out of hand, I like to reign them back in.  Over the short 48 years of my life, I’m slowly learning that I can’t always fix things.  That sometimes the problems are too big for me, and I must fully rely on God to fix them for me.  I know it’s in those times that God is molding me and making me into the person that He wants me to be. I want to open up with you about that journey.

In a nutshell, that’s who I am. I so look forward to the adventure, and to see what God has in store for me!

Until Next Week,
