Velvetizer, What’s That?

I feel very overwhelmed with all the new products that are available now. Back when I first started wearing makeup, in the dinosaur days, it was simple, foundation, blush, powder, eyeshadow, mascara, and I applied it in that order. Today, you must cleanse, tone, serum, moisturize, prime, foundation, under eye concealer, set the under-eye concealer, bake, contour, blush, prime the eyes, eyeshadow, set the face, powder the face, highlight, mascara, and apply setting spray. I don’t even know if I typed them in the correct order much less apply them in the correct order. There’s just so much to remember today!

So, last week, I talked about my search for the right foundation. I have continued to play around with the Bye-Bye Foundation from It Cosmetics, but I find that I like to mix it with their CC+ Cream, both are in the shade light. I find that this combination is lovely, not too thick, and not too cakey, but… dun dun dun, there is always a but, am I right? I have been using the Urban Decay Velvetizer Translucent Mix-in Medium to set the foundation, and this stuff has changed the game of long wear foundation for me! I guess I’ve been living under a rock because I’ve never used a setting powder so finely milled to set my foundation before. HELLO! This stuff is amazing!

Now, let me back up here a bit, this product is marketed for mixing it in with your foundation, but the packaging says it can be used as a setting powder. I did try mixing it in, and it did do a beautiful job making my foundation look like velvet! It really does provide a gorgeous finish to all the foundations I’ve used it with and seemed to boost the coverage that the foundation offered. But… let’s be real I don’t have time to mix it in my foundation every morning! I usually wake up at the very last minute and rush to get out the door. Plus, it’s a little messy. I felt like there was wasted product everywhere, and at $34.00, I don’t want to waste any product! I want to use every bit of it. Once, I started using it as a setting powder; I LOVE it! My foundation seems to hold up better throughout the day, and not break down. It seems to bind the product together and make it stick to my face!
I’m not a professional makeup artist, I just know what works for me, and this stuff does! If you’ve not tried it, you should run out and buy it! My Ulta did not carry it, so I had to order it online, but it came in quick. If you order it from, you can use the Shoprunner Free 2-day shipping & free returns.

Thoughts for Today!

Tuesdays Need Foundation!

Well I’ve already told you that Monday’s need Mascara. Today, I’m going to tell you that Tuesday’s need a LOT of foundation!  I must admit that as a younger woman, I didn’t take care of my skin like I should have.  I was an avid sun worshiper, using iodine and baby oil heaven forbid we do anything to prevent that dark tan!  I have several sun spots all over my body to show it, too, and that includes my face!  Young ladies, please wear sun screen!! You won’t regret it in your old age.

I haven’t been pleased with very many of my choices in foundation lately.  They all seem to break apart by the end of the day.  I don’t know if that is because on my personal summers (hot flashes) or because I tend to touch my face through out the day.  Either way, I can see through my foundation by the end of the day.  My texture, pores, wrinkles, sun spots, and texture bother me.  I wear foundation to cover that stuff up, not let it shine for all the world to see. I’m on the hunt for a foundation that has staying power.

Tarte Shape Tape Foundation

This week I’ve tried the new Shape Tape Foundation by Tarte Cosmetics.  I purchased the color Light Sand. The color matched my complexion pretty well, in case you didn’t know Tarte failed to create a wide variety of colors for this much anticipated foundation, which caused quite a stir in the beauty community.  That being said they have made an apology and plan to release more colors as soon as they can. I chose the matte foundation, because at my age, I want to cover my imperfections.  Tarte’s website says that this foundation “smooths over pores & imperfections with rich, airbrushed full coverage that dries to a flawless matte finish using a unique, concealer-inspired wand. The formula absorbs oil & shine while leaving skin creaseless, hydrated, free of flakiness or cakiness & helping to improve skin health with every application.”

I found it to be too thick, too full coverage, if that is such a thing, and I felt that my imperfections were noticeable with it’s coverage.  I didn’t like it at all.  Now, maybe I should have chosen the Hydrating sister foundation, and I may just order that one next. If you’re looking for a FULL Coverage foundation, then this one may be just the one for you.

Tarte Clay Stick Foundation

I have used Tarte Clay Stick Foundation and enjoyed it very much.  I like that it’s a stick and I can apply it directly to my face.  It blends easily, and the coverage is nice.  The color seemed to match my skin tone very nice, and it was comfortable through out the day.   I would buy this foundation again, and I would recommend it whole-heartedly.

I have also worn their Amazonian Clay 12 hour Foundation . I also enjoyed this foundation, however it did not have the long wear that I was looking for.  It was comfortable on the skin as well, and it didn’t irritate my sensitive skin.  I would purchase this foundation again as well.

Alas, my search for the perfect foundation continues.  I will find it one day, until then the search continues.

I’m just curious, what foundation do you like, and why?  Please leave a comment, I would love to hear your experiences with make up and what products I should try next.

Until Next Time!

Portable Power with Style

Portable Power

About three years ago I started looking for a pair of totally wireless earbuds that I could wear at work.  I was so tired of wires!  Every time I would get up from my desk, I would forget that I had earbuds in and inevitably I would pull my iPod off my desk and onto the floor.  At that time, I couldn’t find a pair that was priced within my budget. (Let’s be real, I was just too cheap to buy them!). I just couldn’t see spending $200 for a pair of earbuds.  All the ones I have previously owned would develop a short in the “wire” and they would break.  I also had two teenagers in my home at the time, and it seemed like we were buying earbuds every week!

While I was preparing for my trip to Vegas,  which I blogged about a few weeks ago in my blog Las Vegas Anyone? I was searching the internet and Pinterest trying to prepare myself to travel to a place I had never been, I came across an ad for the Halo Powerbuds, and the price was under $100!  I bit the bullet and ordered them immediately, from QVC hoping they would arrive before we left on our trip.  Lucky for me they did!

When I opened the package I thought they were just beautiful, if you can ever say that earbuds are beautiful?  They are small, and compact, and then I realized that I could also charge my phone with the case they are stored in!  Hello portable power! I’m not sure if you can tell, I didn’t do my research before I ordered these.  I have purchased several Halo products, and I have always been very pleased with them.  I am a proud owner of the [amazon_textlink asin=’B01B6N52E8′ text=’Halo Bolt,’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’whatamusesde-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’7ef375ba-1dc4-11e8-b50d-81bdd590e32a’] that I believe every woman should own.  I was just intrigued with the earbuds themselves, but after looking at them, and reading the manual, I discovered that the case will charge the earbuds, and you can use the usb to charge a cellphone, iPod, or camera.  This is the perfect item to travel with.

I charged them up and put them in my bag and was so excited to give them a try.  I did pack my backup pair of earbuds just incase I had problems with these, because you can never tell just how new things work for you until you’ve actually put them to use.  I should have also read the instructions on how to pair the dang things to my phone before we left, but I’m a smart cookie you’d think I could handle it, right? Wrong!!!! I had to google the instructions when we arrived at the airport, but I finally got them to work. LOL!  I did find this process a little difficult, because each earbud has to link to your phone, or iPad, and link together so that you can hear out of both ears.  It took me several attempts and I FINALLY got them to work.  I have seen several reviews since then that others were having them same problem.

On the plane may not have been the best place to try them for the first time.  They are definitely not noise cancelling! I did find them comfortable in my ears.  I can almost see that you would forget they are in there.  I have a few suggestions for Halo. It would be helpful to have “L” and “R” marked on the earbud themselves.  They verbally tell you which ear they belong in, and if you’re not fast at putting them in your ears, you’ll miss it.  I did every time! LOL! Although this is not a deal breaker for me.  I plan to continue to use them.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!  I hope I have entertained and informed you a little while you were here. Let me leave you with this little bit of encouragement for today.
